The National Agricultural
Input Authority (NAIA) was established under proclamation Number 288/2002 of the Federal
Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in July 2002. The major directions/ concentrations of the
authority are:
Ensuring that farmers and pastoralists
benefit from an increased production and productivity, which is a necessity for the growth
and development of the country.
Ensuring
the production of various high quality, market oriented agricultural inputs with a
sufficient quantity and ensuring their timely distribution to users, as these are the main
factors in raising production and productivity in the agricultural sector.
Strengthening the input sub sector by encouraging the participation of the private sector, government organs and other stake holders in the production, supply, distribution and trade of agricultural inputs; build capacity, knowledge and skills to promote input technologies in order to fulfill the current and long term requirements of the country.
Assisting in building capacity ,knowledge and skill to promote input technologies in order to fulfil the current and long term requirements of the country ;and
Managing agricultural inputs in a
systematic, coordinated, and integrated manner for increased agricultural production and
productivity in order to ensure sustainable development in the country.

The
Head Office of the Authority is in Addis Ababa, and it has eight laboratory branch offices
for Seed Testing in four different Administrative Regions.
